The triking trio rolling through retirement

Thursday, 04 April 2024

You'll often see Maggie, Winnie and Ann riding their trikes through the tree lined streets of Lakeside Village.

Whether they're cruising around the village, taking a spin around the lake, or heading to the shops for necessities, these retirees have found that triking is perfect for boosting balance and fitness all while enjoying life to the fullest.

Ann, Maggie and Winnie cruise around Lakeside Village on their trikes.

It all began when Winnie rolled into Lakeside Village with her trusty trike. "The first time I rode my bike up to The Lodge, the staff were amazed! They'd never seen a three-wheeled bike in this village!" recalls Winnie with a laugh.

When Maggie moved in next door, she saw Winnie's trike as more than a way to get around - it was a solution to her struggles with balance.

"I’d had a couple of falls and thought about getting a bike,” she shares, “It’s built the strength in my legs up, and it stopped the pain in my knees because I wasn't having the pressure, so it was a win-win.”

Trikes are a great alternative to traditional two-wheel bikes, offering greater stability, comfort, and safety. For Maggie, Winnie and Ann it's about embracing the perks of staying active and bonding over their common hobby.

The best way to get around

Ann says her three-wheeler is the best way to get around the village, stay fit and entertain the grandkids. "I take a picnic in the back of the basket. We meet down at the playground and ride around, it's really good," she tells us.

No biking adventure is complete without Maggie and Winnie's furry companions in the basket at the back. “The dogs go riding in the back, it helps because they can't walk as far. They get treated better than the humans!” laughs Winnie.

Retirement living is all about a community lifestyle that's perfect for making friends and discovering new hobbies. Just chatting with Maggie, Winnie and Ann, you can feel the genuine warmth with which they've embraced the retirement lifestyle.

"I love the sense of community here. My kids love it that I'm always busy," Maggie tells us.

"I've always got something to do, and that's the running joke in the family now - that they have to make an appointment to see me. I love that about my life."

These women aren't just using their trikes to get around—they're embracing a lifestyle of freedom, better health and seizing every moment. Whether it's running errands, catching up with friends, or enjoying a leisurely evening ride, they're all about living life on their own terms.

Ann sums it up perfectly, "There's a sense of freedom here. You can be what you want to be."
