Finding the right retirement home for you

Monday, 30 January 2023

Finding the right type of home is an important step in creating the retirement lifestyle you want. Read on to get all the tips on how to find the perfect retirement home for you.

One of the first questions to ask yourself when researching your retirement living options is, what sort of home do you see yourself living in?

There’s the location to consider. Do you picture a coastal, urban or countryside setting? Do you want to stay close to the neighbourhood you live in now or move closer to your children, grandchildren or family friends? Finding a village close to home means you’ll be familiar with local shopping and services. But moving closer to support networks can make it easy to see family and friends more regularly.

You should also think about the size and space you need. Do you want to downsize or keep the same amount of space you have now? A smaller home offers the benefits of less housework and low maintenance, while extra space allows room for guests or a home office.

And what about an existing village or a new development? You might prefer the idea of an established village that’s been part of the community for many years. Or perhaps you’d like to move to an exciting new development in one of our brand-new retirement communities throughout Australia. For those who like a life of luxury, we also have a range of ultra-premium properties to consider.

Our home styles suit a variety of needs

We offer a wide range of retirement home styles, all built for convenience, comfort and minimal maintenance. Our homes offer plenty of natural light and easy living, and our villages are centrally located in most states of Australia.

Keep reading to learn more about the types of homes you’ll find in our villages so you can decide which one is right for you.

Freestanding or attached homes

Our freestanding or attached homes offer open-plan living with plenty of natural light. These homes, sometimes called villas or units, are low-maintenance and usually on the ground level. We have options for one-bedroom, 2-bedrooms and 3-bedrooms, and in some cases, a separate study. This style of home almost always comes with an alfresco area and garden, so you can enjoy a private outdoor oasis. Most of these homes have car space options ranging from an outdoor space or carport to a double lock-up garage with internal access. Some villages have homes without car spaces.

Apartments

If you’re a frequent traveller or prefer an easy maintenance option, apartment living could be for you. You can choose from one-bedroom, 2-bedroom, or 3-bedroom options, possibly with a separate study. Most apartments don't have a private garden, but there’s usually a balcony - and some apartments even have 2 balconies!

While you might not have a private garden, our villages offer plenty of manicured gardens and outdoor spaces for you to wander and enjoy. And many villages have communal vegetable and herb gardens where you can grow your own produce and keep your green thumb happy.

Serviced apartments

Our serviced apartments offer independent living with a little extra support. Serviced apartments are usually studio or one-bedroom options, and they're typically located within a dedicated building in the village. As a resident of a serviced apartment, you still live independently but have the convenience of meals and other services provided for you.

This style of living means you can enjoy village life without having to worry about cooking, cleaning or heavy laundry.
